The Lord Remembers You – Even When You Feel Abandoned By Him!

If you feel God has abandoned you, here’s a word of comfort: God never forgets his children. He remembers them even if they “feel” abandoned by him! The Bible strongly supports this truth.

Examples of God remembering his people.

“God remembered Noah” [Gen 8:1] who was in the ark for over a year when the world was destroyed by the flood.

“God…remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities [Sodom and Gomorrah] where Lot had lived” [Gen 19:29].

“God…remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob…looked on the Israelites and was concerned with them” [Ex 2:24-25] because the Israelites who were in slavery to Egypt cried out to him for deliverance.

“The LORD remembered” Hannah by giving her a son because she cried out to him [1 Sam 1:11, 19-20].

Jesus’s comforting words of promise, “Truly, I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise” in response to the repentant thief’s cry, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” [Lk 23:42-43].

Brothers and sisters, this is how God remembers those who look to him for deliverance!

What God Does Not Remember.

And to top it all off, there is another truth that just blows our minds. While God remembers his people in a way to deliver them, there is one thing about them, he chooses to forget—it their sins. Hebrews 10:17 records God’s promise, “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” And the basis on which God promises to never remember our sins anymore is this: Jesus “offered [himself] for all time one sacrifice for sins” [Heb 10:12].

That’s the most significant source of encouragement for all of us—especially during times when we feel abandoned by God! God promises to never “remember” the sins of those who have trusted in Jesus. What joy! What comfort!

I hope these rock-solid truths from the Bible will cause you to never ever feel abandoned by God and that you would take to heart the fact that God never forgets his children. He remembers us even if we “feel” abandoned by him!

What God Does Remember.

But if you’ve never trusted in Jesus, please understand that the Bible also clearly says that on the Day of Judgment, “each person [will be] judged according to what they had done” [Rev 20:13]. Since they cannot pay on their own for their sins, they would then be “thrown into the lake of fire” [Rev 20:15].

So, please turn from your sins and turn to the Lord Jesus for forgiveness. Accept him as your Savior. Surrender your life to him and accept him as your Savior. That is the only way to have your sins covered and receive the blessing of experiencing the promise of Hebrews 10:17 of not having your sins remembered any more.

The alternative is to face Christ as Judge on the coming Day of Judgment when all your sins will be remembered. And as judgment, you will be cast into the lake of fire where you will truly experience what it truly means to be abandoned by God for all eternity.

What will you choose—Christ remembering you in kindness as your Savior or him remembering your sins as your Judge?
