Looking Back – Looking Forward

Preacher:
Passage: Deuteronomy 8

This chapter in its original setting was about Moses calling the people to look back at God's mercies to the nation for 40 years, learn from the lessons he taught them, and apply them when they entered into the promised land. While we are not necessarily entering into a new physical landscape, we can draw 3 extended principles to keep in mind as we enter into a new year.

  1. Be Thankful
  2. Be Humble
  3. Be Watchful

Be Thankful as you look back at God's mercies in 2021 and even prior to that year. And as you recall the blessings, go all the way back to the cross for the greatest reason for being thankful - no matter what you face in 2022.

Be Humble knowing every blessing comes from the hand of God and not from our own wisdom or strength.

Be Watchful for idols that would come between you and your wholehearted devotion to Lord.
